Pasig City, February 9, 2022- The Holy Name University (HNU) of Tagbilaran City in Bohol showcased the project Smarter Philippines through Data Analytics, R&D, Training and Adoption (SPARTA) in its virtual conversation series titled “In Focus” via Zoom, Facebook, and YouTube to some 1,000 students and faculty members from its Engineering, Computer Studies, and Information and Communications Technology departments, and senior high school under the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) track.
SPARTA Deputy Project Manager Nikko Visperas gave an overview of the project and scholarship application process.
“We know that the Development Academy of the Philippines is well known for its goal of empowering leaders and strengthening institutions... there is a goal that DAP would like to significantly contribute in making the Philippines to have a more data literate workforce. This is why the DAP is implementing Project SPARTA,” Visperas said as he underscored the mandate of the DAP in relation to the project.
Prior to this event, the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) and HNU signed a Memorandum of Understanding through a virtual ceremony in August 2021, providing 300 SPARTA scholarship slots for the university’s constituents and stakeholders.
"[The] Knowledge that will be gained by our students on the courses offered, which will translate to relevant and high impact capstone projects will obviously result in significant outcomes on the students themselves, on the university as a learning institution, and ultimately to the Philippines as a country” shared HNU University President Fr. Ruel F. Lero.
Meanwhile, Ms. Jaremilleta Arawiran of the College of Education, expressed her excitement about the project, believing that it will help improve the university and the country as well.
Visperas and the university’s SPARTA technical working group, composed of Ms. Arawiran, Mr. Remark Montalban, and Mr. Vincent Hajiron, served as panelists during the open forum moderated by Ms. Vera Villocido, chairman of HNU Marketing and Advertising Office.
