Blessed with beautiful sceneries and rich historical background, Butuan City aspires to just present its majestic tourist destinations and show that peace and order is the best language to welcome people. However, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, tourism was the most affected part sector. Due to travel restrictions and hampered movement of businesses in the city, Butuanons who rely only on tourism as their main source of livelihood has also been badly affected. 

To address these challenges, Butuan City views local hackathons powered by data science and analytics as an emerging solution to gather insights, data-driven policy recommendations, data products, or research which can help alleviate the mentioned problems. The gathered insights from these initiatives will help in the creation of standards/guidelines to boost the vibrancy of the local tourism sector and support sustainable livelihood in local communities.
