Known as the Timber City of the South, Butuan City is blessed with a rich vast area of forestland filled with thriving flora and fauna. With this, the city’s forestland ecosystem is important in gearing up the economy and providing opportunities for local communities. 

However, regulating laws to protect forest land from the exploitation of resources must also be taken into priority.  To address this challenge, Butuan City calls for the submission of data sets and innovations to support sustainable livelihood and strong business potentials in the city. It also aims to establish a repository hub of all digitized data sets and encourages open data challenge and hackathon participants to develop solutions that will map out forest land ecosystem threats in order to promote economic growth while maintaining forest protection and conservation.
