The forestland ecosystem is considered to be the earth’s breathing organ. During natural calamities, the forestland supports the entire ecosystem from the disastrous effects of strong winds, erosion, landslides, and other weathering factors. To establish technology-driven innovations, Butuan City plans to establish a data hub and conduct local hackathons to generate innovations meant to monitor forestlands, detect activities of degradation, and track areas with possible erosion. These initiatives aim to put in place necessary requirements to promote forestland land protection and ensure climate change-resilient communities.
